He is a Grifter (a con artist), and like all professional criminals he has a bit of a record in some places. He’s been outlawed in more than one of them. Aldous has a deep mistrust of the wealthy and powerful, so he takes every opportunity to knock them down a peg (or two). He also walks with a false limp and wears ragged clothing and a beat up ‘ol broad brimmed hat. He also talks like he’s mildly retarded or flighty – head-in-the-clouds. But it’s not true. It’s a ruse. He’s not physically imposing, though; he’s a lanky 5’9” and weighs 140lbs.
His greatest botch was when he attempted to convince the wife of a powerful noble that she was suffering from a demonic obsessions and he asked for her priceless family heirlooms to get rid of it. The Lady’s daughter caught him performing a ritual that would simulate it and he spent five years in the dungeon. His greatest success was in breaking out. At the same time, he freed all the other prisoners in there (many of whom were only guilty of not paying their debts).
